.........................Little has been written
about trivia and humor in Livermore's his-
tory; maybe it's because you don't usually
joke around with people whose nicknames
are Livermoreons.

By poring over old newspaper files and
personal journals, a few gems have been as-
sembled for this first tome. The title of the
book may need some explanation for new-
comers.

For the uninitiated: Livermore has long
held the title in the Guinness Book of
World Records for having the longest
burning lightbulb in America-- glowing
continuously in the firehouse since 1901. I
used to joke with the late fire chief, Jack

Baird, asking if he really didn't have a box
of identical bulbs dated 1901 which he kept
locked in his desk, with instructions to each
shift captain to call him at once if the cur-
rent bulb should start to flicker!
And so came the idea for a lengthy title
for this little book.
