1901 Light Bulb Installed
The Shelby Bulb was donated by Dennis Bernal to the Livermore Volunteer Fire Department.

1903 Wright Brothers Flight
The Wright Brothers, of Ohio, flew the first airplane at Kitty Hawk.

1905 Flagpole Raised in Livermore
The Oregon pine flagpole was 126 feet tall, and dedicated on Sept. 9, 1905

1908 Ford makes model-T
Ford started making his Model-T automobile in Detroit, Michigan.

1914 World War I
The first world war started, because of European land disputes between the great powers.

1918 Livermore Rodeo
The first Livermore rodeo was held in Livermore's sunken Gardens, July 4, 1918.

1920 Women Get The Vote
Although women's suffrage started in 1848, it took until 1920 before it passed.

1927 Television Invented
Philo Farnsworth made the first (reliable and working) television system.

1929 Stock Market Crashes
The Great Crash was the most devastating stock market crash in the history of the United States.

1941 World War 2
World War 2 was a global military conflict lasting from 1939 to 1945. The main countries were Germany and Japan vs the world.

1945 Nuclear Age Begins
The test, code-name "Trinity", occurred during the predawn hours of July 16, 1945 forever changed the world.

1952 Lawrence Livermore Labs
LLNL was established in 1952 at the height of the Cold War to meet urgent national security needs by advancing nuclear weapons science and technology.

1955 Disneyland Opens
One day Walt Disney had a vision of a place where children and parents could have fun together.

1963 President Kennedy Assassinated
John F. Kennedy, the 35th president of the U.S., was fatally shot while campaigning in Texas.

1969 Man On The Moon
On July 20, 1969 a human first set foot on another celestial body.

1969 Woodstock & Altamount
In 1969 many of the youth of the U.S. turned to a new lifestyle, epitomized in these two music shows.

1974 President Nixon Resigns
On Aug. 8, 1974 Richard M Nixon became the 1st President to resign, after being impeached.

1976 Lightbulb Moved
In 1976 it was moved with a full police and fire truck escort, to its current location at Fire Station 6.

1981 PC's Sold By IBM
The IBM PC, (Personal Computer) was first introduced and sold on August 12, 1981.

1985 Titanic Found
On 1986, July 14th, the great ocean liner Titanic, lost in 1912, was discovered!

1989 Berlin Wall Falls
The Berlin Wall, a barrier constructed by East Germany in 1961, during the cold war, was torn down.

1993 Internet Growth
The first web browser, or graphical user interface (GUI), Mosaic, was released in 1993.

1996 LPFD
The Livermore Pleasanton Fire Departments combined to form the LPFD.

2001 9/11
The Sept. 11 attacks were a series of coordinated suicide attacks by al-Qaeda terrorists on the U.S.

2005 Hurricane Katrina
Hurricane Katrina was one of the five deadliest hurricanes in the history of the U.S.

2011 Quake/Tsunami
Widespread destruction from Japan earthquake, tsunamis.

2011 Centennial Light 110 Years
The Centennial Bulb celebrated its 110th year of glowing over a fire department in Livermore, CA.
